The UFC 206 main event has been struck down by injury with Daniel Cormier forced to withdraw through injury.
The UFC hope to keep Anthony Johnson on the card, but who could he face? He’s knocked everyone else out from #2 to #6 in the 205lb division.
Alexander Gustafsson you’d imagine is still injured after being forced to withdraw from UFC Fight Night: Sao Paulo and was replaced by Ryan Bader.
Glover Teixeira won’t be keen on stepping straight back into the Octagon with Rumble after he was knocked out in thirteen seconds at UFC 202.
Ryan Bader won’t want to disrupt his current form by taking on Rumble on short notice.
Now maybe we have a catch with Jimi Manuwa… after losing in the second round to Johnson at UFC 191 and has since defeated fellow contender Ovince Saint Preux, he may be in a perfect opportunity to amend one of the blemishes on his record.
It will probably come down to Rumble’s desire to fight against someone he defeated just over a year ago as well as Jimi’s desire to fight on short notice.
It’s low risk with high reward for Jimi as it will be a great opportunity to headline UFC 206 in Toronto, Canada and will boost his stock stateside. A win will make him the number one contender and you wouldn’t imagine a loss would push him down the rankings.
But if Rumble hits you hard… you may never look the same again!
Jimi even weighed in to the argument with this tweet to Dana!:
