So we’ve done Part 1 which you can find here and now it’s time for the non-tournament fights. Here is the rest of the breakdown.
(Flyweight) Tenshin Nasukawa vs Yamato Fujita: We start off with 2 up and comers. Nasakawa is 3 – 0 – 0 and all have come from finishes early and all in Rizin events. Fujita is making his pro debut and is 2 – 0 – 0 as an amateur. Both will want to make an impression, Nasukawa is becoming a top prospect in the flyweight division, Fujita has a tough challenge ahead of him.
(Grappling match) Kazushi Sakuraba vs Frank Shamrock: This will probably be the main event. Originally it was meant to be Sakuraba vs Dan Henderson but Henderson suffered a neck injury recently and Shamrock filled in as his replacement. Both men are legends in the sport of MMA and 2 recognisable names in Japanese combat sports. Sakuraba will be the favourite as he is more prepared but who knows how it will go.
(Lightweight) Akiyo Nishiura vs Andy Souwer: 2 sufficient strikers, Souwer comes from the kickboxing world with many accolades to his name. He started in MMA in 2015 winning his debut by TKO but then lost the next 2 bouts but won his last bout by submission. Nishiura is from the MMA world, however he hasn’t fought professionally in over 3 years. Hard to say which way this one will go but that’s what makes it exciting.
(Catchweight 75kg) Reina Miura vs Crystal Stokes: An unfair match-up. Stokes is making her MMA debut and is 38 years old. Miura is 21 and currently 6 – 0 – 0 in the sport and is nicknamed King. She is an all rounder and dangerous on the ground. She should win, I can’t see any reason why she wouldn’t.
(Catchweight 63kg) Tatsuya Kawajiri vs Gabriel Oliveira: This should be interesting. Kawajiri has much more experience, fighting all over the world in promotions like SHOOTO where he is a former lightweight championship also in Pride, UFC etc. He has had some notable bouts and a wealth of experience. However, his opponent Oliveira is no pushover. He is currently 9 – 0 – 0 in MMA and 12 years younger, he is also making his Rizin debut so will want to make a good impression. This has all the potential to be fight of the night.
(Openweight) Jerome Le Banner vs Roque Martinez: Another interesting bout and another worthy main event. Le Banner is a legend in the world of Kickboxing and has one of the strongest left hands in all of Combat sports, he hasn’t had many fights as of late and hasn’t fought in MMA since 2010. Martinez has been more active in MMA as of late. He hasn’t lost in his last 7 fights. He is an all rounder but he will have to watch out for the striking game of Le Banner or it could be over before it begins.
There is also 3 kickboxing bouts which will most likely take place on the prelims. Other than that, that’s our breakdown, let us know your thoughts below, on facebook and twitter.
