Oktawian Daniel Olejniczak: “I’m ready to let the hands go!”

Oktawian Daniel ‘OB1’ Olejniczak (3-2-1) makes his Bellator debut this Saturday night, 23rd February, against SBG welterweight Kiefer ‘BDK’ Crosbie in Dublin. OB1, originally from Nowa Ruda, Poland has spent the last 12 years in Belfast, fighting out of IFS Belfast. He is a BAMMA and Brave veteran looking to project himself into the Bellator Welterweight division spotlight with a scalp over the much fancied SBG man Crosbie. OB1 took the time to answer a few questions in the run up to Saturday night’s show. Prelims will be available through the Bellator App and the main card will be shown live on Sky Sports.

February 23rd sees you make your Bellator debut in what could be the biggest night in Irish MMA history, how does it feel to be part of the big show?

Fighting on main card for Bellator, it’s huge thing for me. It’s a dream come true and a huge opportunity that many fighters are dreaming about it. The Dublin card is stacked from top to bottom with elite athletes and it’s a massive privilege that I could be among them. It seems like yesterday I was fighting amateur and watching Bellator shows on TV, hoping that one day I’ll get the call. And here we are, 23rd February I’ll put the Bellator gloves on and bring the fight inside the Bellator cage!

Kiefer Crosbie had a winning start to his Bellator career and has appeared very confident ahead of your fight in interviews. Does this affect your approach to the fight at all?

No, it doesn’t bother me at all. I don’t care what he’s saying. I’m mentally strong and his mean facial expression will not affect my performance. Everyone is confident. I’m confident too. You must be confident in your skills otherwise there is no point you walking in to the cage.

How has your preparation been for this fight so far?

Fight camp went very well, all team in IFS Belfast put the work in to get me ready and in best shape I can be. Plus, I have visited Berkut WCA gym in Warsaw, Poland for few weeks training with best polish fighters like Jan Blachowicz, Daniel Omielaniczuk, Piotr Strus, Tomasz Narkun …just to name few! Now my weight is on point I’m injury free, I’m ready to let the hands go!

Where do you see the fight being won and lost?

This type of fight could go anywhere it’s going to be a real test of striking, grappling and cardiovascular fitness. I think we will just meet in middle of the cage and go at it. I’m happy to battle in any platform, I’m ready wherever the fight goes.

Outside of your own fight, which fight on the card excites you the most and why?

All of fights are very interesting, matchmaker Jude Samuel done a brilliant job. I don’t think there is even one fight on card that will not bring excitement and the attention of spectators. Definitely going to watch my team mate fight Adam Gustavo taking on Richie Smullen, wanna see that!
