Mayweather: Conor McGregor Fight Could “Absolutely” Happen!

Speaking on Showtime last night, legendary unbeaten former boxing champion Floyd Mayweather claimed that not only was talk of a fight with UFC title holder Conor McGregor “not just a rumour”, but that he “absolutely” thought the fight would happen.

Despite multiple denials by UFC President Dana White, it appears Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather and UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor are in discussions to stage an exhibition boxing match that would surely be one of the biggest pay-per-view events of the 21st century so far.

White claims there is no way it could happen, at least until he is contacted and the fight is arranged with the promotion. However, it seems, McGregor- who is presently in dispute with the UFC over his media schedule- is acting unilaterally, and is putting together the bout without the help of either White or the UFC.

Speaking last night on Showtime, Mayweather said:

“It’s really not a rumour. The fight may happen. We really don’t know as of right now, but do I think the fight will happen? Absolutely…

“It has to be a boxing match because most fights that Conor McGregor won inside the Octagon, he was a stand-up guy.”

Earlier this week Freddie Roach claimed he had been approached to coach McGregor, and would be happy to do so. He did also add, however, it would take at least three years to prepare the Irishman for such a fight.
