The first fight for next year’s London event was earlier announced via the UFC social media platforms. Taking place on Saturday 16th March, Jack Marshman will come up against John Phillips in what will be a historical first meeting of two Welshman in the UFC.
In what will surely be a toe-to-toe battle, Marshman (22-8) will come into the fight against his compatriot on the back of two defeats. Losing to Karl Roberson, via unanimous decision, on his last outing at UFC230 last month, Marshman will be desperate to get back to winning ways in this all Welsh clash. Similarly, Phillips (21-8) will also be coming into the London showdown with two defeats in his last two outings, most recently on the Blaydes v Ngannou 2 Fight Night in Beijing card where he suffered a 3rd round rear naked choke defeat to American, Kevin Holland.
Seeking his first UFC win, Phillips will be keen to notch up his 22nd W in what has all the makings of a classic all UK fight. Three consecutive defeats can potentially trigger alarm bells within the organisation so both Marshman and Phillips will keen to impress on this card. Should they play out an epic encounter, which is extremely possible, a stay of execution would surely be on the cards.
Tickets go on sale for next year’s showdown on 1st February via the usual outlets. WHOATV will bring you all the latest news regarding the London card as and when it’s announced. Stay tuned for more updates.
