M-1 Challenge 47 Results: Ivan Buchinger continues run while Monson loses steam

M-1 Global’s M-1 Challenge 47 took place in Orenburg, Russia last night infront of a packed house which included the legendary Fedor in attendance.

It was a card that featured some of the best and in-form talent from around the world mixed with some veterans of the game. Former Cage Warriors lightweight champ Ivan Buchinger (26-4) continued his fantastic run of form since “that punch” from Conor McGregor suffered on New Years eve less that 18 months ago. The 28-year-old defeated Sergey Golyaev (23-11) via rear-naked choke and is now 5-0 since the McGregor defeat.

Russian fan-favourite and MMA veteran Jeff Monson (49-18-1) is the polar opposite to Buchinger after suffering his fifth defeat in a row losing by a first round TKO to Frenchman Chaban Ka (7-3-1). Monson went for the takedown right out of the gate, Ka stuffed and remained on top. Monson worked from bottom but found himself eating shots and not answering back forcing the ref to call an end to the bout.

In the main event Brazilian Luis Fernanda Miranda (12-1) scored his 11th first round stoppage win by defeating 20-year-old Ukranian prospect Vasily Babich (9-2) by a guillotine choke, the youngster did not tap which forced the referee to step in.

The co-main saw local Russian fighter Marat Gafurov (9-0) remain undefeated with an impressive decision victory over arguably his toughest challenge to date in American fighter Lee Morrison (13-4), who was previously on an 8-fight-win-streak.
