In a blitz of fight announcements, the three scheduled fight night events for fight island have been revealed in full. Packed top to bottom with great match-ups and many top European fighters, all three cards look incredible. The first of these cards, taking place just four days after UFC 251 gets fight island underway, will take place on July 15th. Discussed on today’s #WHOACAST
The main event, which was reported several days ago, will see ranked featherweight’s Calvin Kattar and Dan Ige throw down. Kattar has been one of the stand-out performers in the featherweight division as of late and is coming off of his second round TKO of Jeremy Stephens at UFC 249. Dan Ige will also be making his second UFC appearance since events have been behind closed doors after he earned a split decision win when welcoming Edson Barboza to 145 pounds. This will be his first main event despite being on a 6-fight win streak since losing his UFC debut to Julio Arce.
In the co-main event, former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar moves to the stacked bantamweight division as he meets 7th ranked Pedro Munhoz. This fight was originally scheduled for UFC 251 but has been pushed back four days.
The rest of the main card sees Carla Esparza take on the undefeated Marina Rodriguez in a ranked strawweight match-up. Ghana’s Abdul Razak Hassan returns to the octagon to take on Mounir Lazzez in his first bout since September 2018. He comes in on a three-fight first-round KO streak. Opening up the main card is Liverpool’s Chris Fishgold who will be making his third Octagon appearance against Jared ‘Flash’ Gordon. Gordon has a UFC record of 3-3 with three KO losses whilst Fishgold is coming in off of a win against Daniel Teymur after losing his UFC debut to Calvin Kattar.
In the prelims, three of UFC London’s scheduled fighters who had their bouts cancelled finally get their chance to compete. John Phillips vs Dusko Todorovic has been re-booked after being scheduled for UFC London. As previously reported by WhoaTV, England’s Lerone Murphy will make his long-awaited second UFC appearance against Brazil’s Ricardo Ramos after an impressive showing in his UFC debut.
Riding three straight wins, ‘Meatball’ Molly McCann has grabbed hold of the UK fans attention. She will look to improve upon her flyweight ranking of 15 when she meets Brazil’s Talia Santos who came into the UFC with a record of 15-0 but lost her debut. In the featured prelim, former Cage Warriors light-heavyweight champion Modestas Bukauskas will make his UFC debut against Vinicius Moreira who is on a 3-fight losing streak after being finished by Alonzo Menifield, Eryk Anders and Paul Craig.
A flyweight contest between Tim Elliott who is currently on a 3-fight losing streak takes on Ryan Benoit who was scheduled to take on Tyson Nam last weekend before pulling out. Opening up the card is a flyweight contest between Diana Belbita and Liana Jojua with both women coming off of a loss.
