UFC champ Jon Jones has announced that he is entering a drug treatment facility after failing a drug test in early December, 2014.
According to a report from Yahoo.com’s Kevin Iole, Jon Jones failed a random drug test on Dec. 4th after testing positive for benzoylecgonine, the main metabolite in cocaine. Jones then passed a follow up test later that month.
It is said that “benzoylecgonine is not banned out-of-competition” and “as a result, the commission was unable to penalize Jones or prevent him from fighting.”
Jon Jones also issued a statement via Yahoo Sports:
“With the support of my family, I have entered into a drug treatment facility. I want to apologize to my fiancée, my children, as well as my mother, father, and brothers for the mistake that I made. I also want to apologize to the UFC, my coaches, my sponsors and equally important to my fans. I am taking this treatment program very seriously. Therefore, at this time my family and I would appreciate privacy.”
This news just comes days after Jones successfully defended his title against Daniel Cormier. You have to be impressed that it did not affect him during the fight as he must have known this news and announcement was to come out this week.
