It was revealed yesterday that Ireland’s own ‘Alpha Female’ Catherine Costigan (5-0) will face America’s Amber Brown (4-1) at Invicta 13 this July in Las Vegas during International Fight Week.
26-year-old Brown made her debut in the promotion beating Liz McCarthy (2-2) late last year. She has also competed twice in the legendary Japanese promotion Pancrase during 2013. It was here that she suffered her first and only professional defeat but it was two the very experienced veteran Emi Fujino (16-8). Brown bounced back in her second fight beating Kikuyo Ishikawa (9-4).
This will Costigan’s first fight in Invicta since signing with them earlier this year. The 35-year-old has never tasted defeat and even went 3-0 in the Cage Warriors promotion between 2013 and 2014.
The Pankraton Kickboxing Academy fighter has her sights firmly set on capturing the atomweight title and a win over Brown would surely give her strides towards a potential title shot.
“When they enter the cage with me, they should expect that it’s going to be their hardest fight both technically and mentally,” said Costigan earlier this year about any potential opponents.
“I plan on having the atomweight belt around my waist by 2016.”
Invicta 13 will be headlined ‘Cyborg’ vs. Faith Van Duin title fight. There are also a couple more title fights on the card including a Herica Tiburcio (9-2) vs. Ayaka Hamasaki (11-1) fight for the atomweight strap which will be of great interest to Costigan.
