Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz official for UFC 196, fight will take place at Welterweight

The drama is over, after it was announced that Rafael dos Anjos had pulled out of his scheduled lightweight title fight due to an injury sustained during his training camp Conor McGregor was left without an opponent, but it has been announced by the UFC and Fox that the Irishman will now face the fan favourite Nick Diaz at welterweight instead.

The two have taken pot shots at each other in the past with Diaz calling out McGregor after his win against Michael Johnson and McGregor taking his shots during his acceptance speech for the “Fighter of the Year” award he received recently. Diaz usually fights at lightweight, but the nature of the bout cancellation by dos Anjos means we are too close for him to cut down weight in such a short amount of time.

The fight will remain as the headline bout despite Holly Holm fighting Meisha Tate for the belt on the same card.

UFC 196: McGregor vs Diaz will take place on March 5th in Las Vegas.
