The UFC have boosted their Welsh contingent further, by today announcing that Brett “The Pikey” Johns (12-0 MMA) has signed with the promotion and will debut at #UFCBelfast.
Johns, will take on fellow debutant Kwan Ho Kwak in a Batamweight clash on 19th November in Belfast.
“The Pikey” last fought in MMA back in July 2015 and has been recovering from a shoulder injury which has kept him on the sidelines. Johns was signed to Titan FC, during which he picked up two wins against Walel Watson and Anthony Gutierrez.
He has now become the second Welshman to be signed to the UFC, following Jack Marshman who will also be fighting on the Belfast card. The card order is yet to be finalised and so whilst Marshman was the first Welshman to sign with the promotion, it may work out that Johns will actually be the first Welshman to compete for the UFC.
His opponent, Kwan Ho Kwak, is like Johns undefeated and enters the Octagon with a 9-0 record. It will be the first time that Kwak will compete outside of Korea/Phillipines and it is a tough ask for both men taking the fight on just 18 days notice.
