This Friday BAMMA returns to Dublin for the 5th time in 2 and half years. As always, it will be a stacked card with 15 fights taking place in the 3 arena. This will be a 2 part article, here is the prelims breakdown.
(Welterweight) Philip Mulpeter vs Ilkin Gasimov: We start off the night with a welterweight clash where Ireland vs France. With this card you will see a huge Irish representation in particular team SBG Ireland. Originally Mulpeter was meant to face fellow Irishman Myles Price at 155 but it was cancelled and now he will face the less experienced Gasimov. Gasimov is 3 – 1 – 0 with 3 victories coming via submissions while Mulpeter is 7 – 5 – 0 with 5 victories coming from KO and 2 from decisions. It depends if it’s standing or going to ground. It has the potential to be fight of the night, so it’s best to get to your seat early.
(Bantamweight) Blaine O’Driscoll vs Harry Hardwick: Originally O’Driscoll was meant to face Jay Butler but it was cancelled and now he faces the undefeated Hardwick. Hardwick is 2 – 0 – 0 while O’Driscoll like Mulpeter is representing SBG Ireland he has a record of 4 – 1 – 0 and is on a 3 fight win streak recently picking up a KO victory over Darren O’Gorman at Cage Warriors in March.
(Featherweight) Dylan Logan vs Arann Maguire: Another SBG representative, Dylan Logan is 0 – 1 – 0 losing his professional debut just before the end of the last year with an amateur record of 2 – 1 – 0, he’ll need a win here over another a fairly new fighter in Arann Maguire who is 1 – 1 – 0, also losing his debut but picking up a KO victory over Hughie O’Rourke back in March. It’s all to play for here.
(Welterweight) Steve Owen vs Maciek Gierszewski: Ireland vs Poland next. Undefeated Owen who is also representing SBG is on 2 – 0 – 0 record both by KO while his opponent Gierszewski who is also undefeated is on 1 – 0 – 0 record also coming via KO; it all depends on who gets that knock-out blow.
(Welterweight) Kiefer Crosbie vs Dariusz Swierkosz: Ireland vs Poland again. Crosbie, another SBG fighter with a record of 2 – 0 – 0 was originally meant to face Harry Marple but the bout was scrapped. His opponent Swierkosz comes in with a record of 3 – 1 – 0 and is currently on a 3 fight win streak, he was meant to face Ramunas Venslovas in June but it was cancelled and is a perfect replacement for Marple. Both are all rounders, so who knows what the outcome will be.
(Welterweight) Richard Kiely vs Daniel Olejniczak: Finally to complete the Ireland vs Poland trilogy. Kiely is 1 – 0 – 0 with a KO victory at BAMMA 27. Since then Olejniczak knocked out Jonathan Reid at BAMMA 28 and fought to a draw against Daniel Cassell at BAMMA 29. Olejnicczak has more experience with a longer amateur career than Kiely. This clash is all about solidifying each fighters position on BAMMA’s roster.
(Welterweight) Ion Pascu vs Henry Fadipe: One of the more experienced fights on the card. Pascu who is making his BAMMA return is on a record of 15 – 7 – 0 and likes to finish his opponents. His opponent Fadipe is no different, he also likes to finish off his opponents and is on a record of 9 – 8 – 0 and will be looking for a win as he is making his BAMMA debut.
(Light Heavyweight) Ben Forsyth vs Matt Clempner: Ben Forsyth is currently on a record of 2 – 2 – 0 with his last 2 fights coming up short and is somewhat making his return to BAMMA since last year, he needs a win. Matt Clempner is 1 – 0 – 0 and is making his BAMMA debut. Forsyth may have more experience but he has a lot more pressure on his shoulders which will undoubtably make a difference on the night.
(Featherweight) Decky Dalton vs Mick Brennan: The first fight on the card to not feature an SBG fighter, both men desperately need a win here, Dalton has lost his last 3 fights and before that won his previous 6 fights. Brennan has lost his last 4 fights and hasn’t fought in almost a year and a half. Will the ring rust play a part in the outcome, possibly. The chants of ‘Decky’s gonna get yer’ will probably be unnerving for his opponent too.
(Lightweight) Richie Smullen vs Rhys Mckee: This should pick up an accolade of the night. Smullen is undefeated and is on a record of 3 – 0 – 0 while Mckee is on a record 5 – 1 – 0 losing his last fight to Tim Barnett at BAMMA 28, he’ll want to get back to winning ways. Both men like to finish their opponents, I can’t see this one going to the judges and feel confident Mckee will put on an emphatic display reasserting hiself as one of the country’s most promising ligthweights.
(Lightweight) Niklas Stolze vs Chris Stringer: In the main event of the prelims, we have an interesting bout. Stolze who is representing SBG, lost his BAMMA debut to Terry Brazier in December of last year and will want to right that wrong. His opponent Stringer has been a pro since 2005 and has lost his last 4 fights and needs a win. Stolze is more of an all rounder while Stringer is very proficient on the ground but the Kaobon man will possibly have the advantage on the feet.
That’s our prelims breakdown, the event takes place this Friday and the doors open at 5 pm GMT, let us know your thoughts below, on Facebook and Twitter. Check back for the main card breakdown later today.
