After a very frustrating 12 months Andy Young (7-7) things are beginning to look bright again as the Next Generation NI fighter won the UCMMA flyweight title last night in London, England.
Last August Young competed in the first of five contracted fights with the Cage Warriors. With flyweight fights few and far between and competing in a promotion that had a division of flyweights seemed ideal. Unfortunately though the result didn’t go his way and then Cage Warriors closed shop for the time being. This left Young back at square one.
11 months then passed before Young had the chance to compete again. This time the opportunity presented itself to travel to Kazakhstan and fight for the renowned M-1 promotion. Once again the result didn’t go his way and for the first time in over eight contests had he lost back to back fights.
But last night at UCMMA 44 at The Troxy in London he was crowned the flyweight champ after he defeated UK veteran Spencer Hewitt (12-9) via split decision in what has been universally described as an extremely exciting contest.
