Six-time UFC veteran Andre Winner improved his record to 19-8-1 in one night by winning a three fight tourney at AON MMA in Leeds, UK on Saturday night and so pocketed a nice £15,000.
The money was well earned as Winner fought for over 42 minutes over the course of the evening. In the first round he defeated Jordan Miller (8-13) by TKO in the third round and then came Stephen Martin (1-2) in the semi’s which he won by unanimous decision. Then in the final he fought Artem Lobov (8-9-1) who was the slightly fresher man after having a bye in the first round. Don’t be fooled by Lobov’s record, he is one of the more respected fighters on the UK MMA scene and continuously fights the best fighters around and never backs out of a fight. Winner got rocked in the second but kept his composure and won by unanimous decision.
Winner is now 7-2, on such shows like BAMMA, KSW and Europa MMA, since his release from the UFC in 2011. With more and more European and UK shows than ever before taking place a return to the UFC doesn’t seem too farfetched for the 32-year-old, something that has proven to be very difficult for UK fighters once they are released.
