Jonathan Brookins (14-6) made his return to MMA last night and his flyweight debut at Legacy FC 29 where he defeated Cody Fuller (10-8) by rear naked-choke in the second round.
Brookins burst onto the scene winning TUF 12 and had a lot of hype surrounding him in the UFC. Unfortunately he had a difficult time in the promotion and went 1-3 following winning TUF. His last bout for the UFC was a submission loss to Dustin Poirier in December 2012 after which he decided to retire from MMA and move to India.
Well last night just over a year after his retirement he made his return and looked fantastic. He controlled the fight and seemed at home at flyweight as he dominated Fuller before finally submitting him. At only 28-years-old and standing 6ft tall Brookins could become a threat to anyone at flyweight especially with not only his fight experience but the life experiences he has went through over the past four years. I look forward to seeing Brookins back in action again and seeing where he goes from here.
Elsewhere on the card there was a bit of controversy as Myron Dennis (10-2) upset former UFC heavyweight title challenger Paul Buentello (33-16) piped him to a split-decision win to capture the Legacy Ligh-Heavyweight title. It was a five-round back and forth fight that many felt went in the favour of 40-year-old Buentello, even Pat Miletich gave the fight 4-1 to ‘The Headhunter’.
