Former UFC heavyweight Pat Barry is returning to kickboxing tonight after years away from the sport and while in his hotel room on Thursday night he was called into action early.
Upon going to bed Barry was annoyed by a noise coming from down the hall and it was too distracting to ignore so he decided to investigate and he stumbled across a woman calling for help from within her room. Here is Pat Barry telling the story to FOX Sports:
“Really, I thought it was a cat, but I kept hearing it,” Barry told FOX Sports. “Opened the door and I could hear that it wasn’t a cat but a woman screaming help. I found the door and right before I went through it, I heard her say she was trapped in the bathroom. When I realized she wasn’t being murdered, I decided this isn’t a major threat so I called management first.”
“They couldn’t get past the metal latch so they looked at me and I looked at them and they just gave me ‘the nod’,” Barry said.
“If I could go back in time, I’d have used a spinning side kick!”
Alan’s Angle: I couldn’t think of a better fighter to be in that situation both in terms of reaction to the situation and kicking ability. Those legs could chop down trees. Barry is known for being one of the best personalities in combat sports and I look forward to a video interview where he explains everything.
He fights tonight in Richmond, Virginia where it is said to be a tester fight before joining the kickboxing promotion Glory.
