Cage Warriors lightweight contenders will collide at Cage Warriors 88 at The Echo Arena, Liverpool, as Martin ‘.50Cal’ Stapleton faces off against ‘The True Viking’ Søren Bak with both men eyeing a shot at the 155lb world title.
While the division’s champion Chris Fishgold is set for action against Alexander Jacobsen in the night’s main event, both Stapleton and Bak will be keen to put on a show and claim the sort of impressive win that could position them as a possible contender to face the winner later this year.
Stapleton (19-5) has found his feet in the Cage Warriors cage following a decision loss to Anthony Dizy on his promotional debut in February. The Royal Marine-turned-MMA fighter rebounded from that defeat with a strong performance in his most recent outing as he claimed a unanimous decision victory over Belgium’s Donovan Desmae at Cage Warriors 85.
He’ll take on Denmark’s Bak (8-1), who made a strong impression on his Cage Warriors debut at Cage Warriors 83, where he claimed a dominant three-round win over seasoned veteran Scott Clist.
The matchup further strengthens a card that looks set to deliver another spectacular night in Liverpool, with local favourites Fishgold, Paddy Pimblett, Molly McCann and Lee Chadwick all scheduled for action at the October 28 event.
Cage Warriors president Graham Boylan said: “The lightweight division is arguably the toughest weight class in mixed martial arts across the world, and it’s no different here at Cage Warriors.
“We’ve got the title on the line in the main event, but earlier on the card Martin Stapleton and Søren Bak have a real opportunity to stake their own championship claims.
“It’s a fight that has us excited here in the Cage Warriors office, and I’m sure the fans will feel the same. It should produce a fascinating clash on a great night of fights in Liverpool.”
