Whilst you slept the UFC announced via its website that the highly anticipated match up between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor is to take place as planned on 11 July.
In a statement issued through its website the UFC confirmed that as previously reported Aldo had indeed sustained an injury, but had not suffered a broken rib. Following a review of the scans, it had been determined by various medical doctors that the champion suffered a bone bruise to his rib and cartilage injury during training.
The news arrived with a caveat, whilst Aldo is keen to meet McGregor on fight night the UFC, as a precautionary measure, have number one contender Chad Mendes waiting in the wings to face McGregor for the interim UFC featherweight championship should Aldo be unable to compete.
McGregor took to Twitter soon after the news was announced…
It turned out he just had a little period pain.
